Rethinking Leadership Starts with Why?

When I first started out to build a career as a coach, I remember two questions that people asked me:

1)      What is your purpose?

2)      Who is your target market?

On the what is your purpose question, my coach spent 4 hours asking me that question over and over again and scaling the authenticity of my response on a ten point scale! It sounds painful. It was painful and at the same time it helped me to move closer to my why?

It was the same with target market. To me it was obvious “People who want to grow”. The whole of mankind I didn’t want to narrow my net.:)

I had so much I wanted to share and I didn’t want to lose a single soul.

Have you ever felt like that? Not wanting to choose because it's all important?

Overtime I got clarity on my why? And Who? By paying attention to my energy and what brought me joy. I find people endlessly interesting, so much so that I would have burnout if I didn’t narrow my focus. So, what gives me energy is working with Leaders who truly want transformation within themselves in order to be a great leader for others. I call this Rethinking Leadership

I love ripple effects and working with people who are willing to start them. I know from my own personal and professional development that having access to a deep knowing that comes from listening to my energy, body and mind, tranforms. It's like sand being turned into diamond.

My Husband and I were talking about my experience In Sri Lanka, on a Spiritual Retreat, "Back to Nature" @Chloewardyoga, He told me I had become a Diamond. I think he meant it as a compliment!

He explained, thankfully, that a diamond is a metaphor to illustrate growth, resilience, and the beauty that emerges from pressure. Like many of the people I work with I have a story of how I got here.

Sometimes we start our journey with the wrong ingredients—self-doubt, old beliefs, or misaligned environments. To transform, we must first recognise what within us needs refining and what raw potential we already have.

The shift begins when we realise that deep inside, we carry the essence of something extraordinary—like carbon, waiting to be transformed.

Diamonds only form under immense heat and pressure, just like human transformation often comes through challenge and discomfort. The Pressure of life's demands, expectations, or internal struggles push us beyond what we thought possible.

Heat, the emotional fire of failure, setbacks, or deep reflection purifies us, burning away what no longer serves us.

Transformation is not an overnight event but a process of deep, unseen shifts happening below the surface. Even when we feel stuck, the work is happening.

A raw diamond is not yet valuable—it needs to be cut and polished to reveal its brilliance. In life, our transformation comes through:

  • Reflection: Understanding the lessons from our struggles.

  • Refinement: Shedding limiting beliefs, sharpening our skills, and finding clarity in our purpose.

  • Courage: Allowing our true selves to be seen, just like a faceted diamond shines when light hits it.

The end result of becoming a diamond, fully formed and polished, is to be unbreakable, rare, and luminous—just like a person who has gone through transformation. They radiate wisdom, strength, and authenticity.

Their past struggles did not destroy them; they shaped them.

We don’t just become diamonds despite the pressure—we become diamonds because of it.
