When the Painting Found Me: A Story About Trusting Intuition

I didn’t expect to find the painting in Nottingham. In fact, I’d almost given up looking.
We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and had been gifted some money by my lovely mother-in-law to buy a special piece of art. Something meaningful. Something to remember the moment.
While exploring Portugal that summer, we wandered through gallery after gallery, expecting that feeling to arrive. You know the one. The sense that something speaks to you before your mind can make sense of it.But nothing came.
Back home in Nottingham, my Husband, Neil , and I, popped into a small gallery on a whim. And there it was. A painting by an artist named Neil Carroll!
And this piece? It moved something in me I can’t quite explain. It felt like it had been waiting for us all along.
That moment reminded me how intuition has always been the quiet thread running through my life. Sometimes a whisper. Sometimes a pull in my gut. But always there.
It was intuition that nudged me toward training to be a Psychotherapist. It was intuition that encouraged me to keep following the breadcrumbs—from there to coaching, mindfulness, team coaching, leadership development and energy work.
Each step made sense only in hindsight. But in the moment, it was just a feeling. A knowing that I couldn’t ignore.
And it’s this same intuition I now invite my clients to trust.Because in a world that values logic, strategy, and speed—it’s easy to ignore the quiet nudge.But often, it’s the whisper that leads us home.
